Project Overview
MacroSphere completed a large-scale custom curtain project for the Komatsu Distribution Facility in 2021.
This was MacroSphere’s largest curtain installation, requiring the manufacture, preparation and installation of a curtain system suited to the substantial scale of the facility.
The completed display curtain measured approximately 56m wide and 8m high. Each main curtain contained around 400m2 of material and weighed approximately 105 kilograms.
Across the complete project, approximately 4.8 kilometres of material was used.
Large-Scale Curtain Manufacture & Installation
A curtain installation on a truly industrial scale. MacroSphere manufactured and installed a custom curtain system measuring 56 metres wide and 8 metres high, using approximately 4.8 kilometres of material.
Scope of Works
- Planning the curtain layout across the large internal span
- Custom manufacture of the main curtain sections
- Preparation and handling of approximately 4.8 kilometres of material
- Coordination and transport of the completed curtain sections
- High-level installation across the 56-metre-wide area
- Hanging and alignment of the curtain system
- Final positioning and finishing of the installed curtains
Large-Scale Curtain Manufacturing
Producing curtains at this scale required careful preparation throughout the manufacturing process.
With each main curtain approx. 400m2 of material, we needed to manage the fabric consistently across every stage, from measuring and joining through to folding, handling and preparing completed sections for transport.
The size of the curtains also meant that plenty of space and teamwork were required during manufacture.
High-Level Curtain Installation
The finished curtain system extended across a 56-metre-wide area and reached a height of approximately 8 metres.
With each main curtain weighing around 105 kilograms, the installation required careful handling, suitable access equipment and close coordination between the team on the ground and those working at height.
Accurate positioning was important to achieve a consistent fall and finish across the full length of the installation.

Project Challenges
Scale of Manufacture
With approximately 4.8 kilometres of material used across the project, maintaining consistent measurements and finishes throughout production was essential.
Curtain Weight and Handling
Each main curtain weighed approximately 105 kilograms. Moving, lifting and positioning the completed sections required planning and a coordinated team approach.
Installation at Height
The curtain system reached approximately 8 metres high, requiring high-level access equipment and careful installation across the facility.
Consistency Across a Long Span
Achieving a uniform finish across a 56-metre-wide installation required accurate positioning, alignment and final adjustment.
Project Outcome
The completed curtain system created a continuous and professional finish across the large internal display area at the Komatsu Distribution Facility.
The project demonstrated MacroSphere’s ability to manage a highly specialised curtain project from custom manufacture through to handling and high-level installation.
With its substantial dimensions, material requirements and individual curtain weights, the Komatsu project remains an impressive example of the scale MacroSphere can deliver.
